Hello,

I'm quite new to photography and I have a good knowledge of digital cameras, I would like to take the next step into photography and buy an SLR. I have budget of £200-400 and would consider buying a used camera, any advice on which camera to buy, and which lenses to buy with it would be much appreciated. I am very into photo shoots, and wildlife photography.

Thanks in advance,

Best thing to do is go into somewhere like jessops and get a feel for the different brands.

Minimum new is around the £300 mark with a kit lens which will be good to get you started
Wildlife is likely to need a longer lens

May be wise to look 2nd hand, especially on the classifieds here.
I got a mint condition 450d with IS kit lens for £290 with less than 2k clicks

hi john if your into wildlife photography then i would say get second hand, as your going to need a decent zoom for that. also the len,s are more important than the camera (to a point) its no good spending most of your money on a great body if you put a cheap lens on the front of it hth mike

been looking around, think im gonna go for the Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm lens kit

your opinions?

I would buy a second hand D80 or similar and a kit lens. D40 does not have a focus motor so you are limited to AFS lenses or manual focus. Lenses such as the AF 50mm f1.8 (Nikon's nifty fifty) will only work in Manual focus.
