Yes
I have had to sell off my kit as i find photography too frustrating:bang: now as i am partially sighted and think my ability to achieve my past standards has gone for good.
I cant imagine going through life with without a camera of my own (Wife has canon kit) so i am thinking of buying a very good all in one camera.

I have no knowledge of such things and wondered if anyone could point me towards a good one?
I have a good budget and quality of images is my main concern:thumbs:.

I'd suggest a D700 and a 24-70 f/2.8...ideal...

Yes very funny, wish i could have kept it but found it to be too much cash tied up in something i could only use to 30% of it's ability.
I assume nobody has anything in the way of sensible constructive advice about an all in one which is all i was asking for?

Something with live view and a magnified display whilst focusing?

Cheer-up...:D

What about the GF1? There is no viewfinder to look through and you can zoom in on the screen to get the focus spot on. You only have to look at the huge thread to see how much love it gets.

I've just bought the wife a Canon G11. Amazing camera, I'm sure that this little beauty would cover all your needs.

Thanks for these the G11 does sound a good option but i hear a G12/13 is on the way?
I do need a viewfinder as i cant see a screen in sunlight i could never view my pics on the D700 unless i found some shade.
I will take a look at the sony and the GF1 as i know nothing about them.

Thanks again

Hello Tony,

Sorry to hear about your predicament.

How about the Canon Powershot SX 1 IS....... to give you the feel of a DSLR and the specification is certainly impressive.

Or a bit off the wall, and depends on what subjects you will shooting, but for good image quality, what about the Sigma DP2 ?

- there is a new model update about to arrive here in the UK, the DP2x - will be more expensive as you will need to purchase a viewfinder - I believe the Voigtlander one is rated highly over Sigma's own. Worth looking at though?

Regards

Roy

Hi Roy,
Hope all is well with you and yours.
Thanks for this i will take a look into the Sigma as i no nothing about compacts and need to do some reading.

It seems canon are about to bring out a new g12/13? and if Sigma and sony are doing the same then my timing is terrible.

Thanks again
Tony

Hello Tony,

I am fine, (well my normal 'semi-poorly' self) thanks for asking.

The rumour machines suggest that lot of new cameras could be unveiled this year, but if you keep on listening to them, then you will never buy a camera as you will always be waiting for that elusive new model..........

I forgot to mention that the Sigma DP range may or may not appeal, as these have non-interchangeable, fixed focal length lenses, which restricts their appeal, the DP2 is a 24mm focal length, where obviously you have to 'zoom' with your legs, but that could be a benefit in your situation and allow you to better frame / compose the photograph.

The DP2x is not in the shops yet (a minor upgrade in the grand scheme of things), but you can read about the existing model the DP2s on the Sigma micro-website: click here

There is a rumour that Sigma may bring out a mirrorless compact system with interchangeable lenses, but would not hold your breath - Sigma take ages in their development cycle - i.e. they announced the SD15 (DSLR) in the 3rd Qtr of 2008 - and its still yet to arrive in the shops....due July 2010.

But compact cameras have a much shorter development / replacement cycle.

Good luck with your reading - hope it helps you make an informed choice.

Regards

Roy

The G11 is a great piece of pocket sized kit - I love mine and have taken more photos in "causual" situations than I ever did in similar circumstances with my SLRs.

Is there a G12 coming? Of course! After that there will be a G13 and a G14, guaranteed!

You'll never win on that one.
