However much I try I can't get decent quality photo prints out of my HP P1000 when using a Mac. I have tried all sorts of drivers and settings and always come out grainy as though it was set to draft printing. It seems fine from my pc however.

Can anybody recommend and Mac and PC compatible printer?

Ideally it would have a fairly small footprint, be able to produce good quality photo prints and, ideally, have a reasonable cartridge cost.

If it has a built is USB hub that would be a bonus too!

Any ideas?

I have found any of the Canon Pixma range produce good quality prints.. Plus Croma inks have a none fade formulation that claims to be good for 100yrs!...Big claim!

pixma here too
but one with a dedicated photo black rather than the really cheap pixma's
if you get a photo one with 6 colours, they'll do a better job, but use the right paper otherwise your prints will suffer
