Canadian Rockies equipment Advise

Planning a trip tinge Cabadian Rockies and Vancouver Island. Combination of landscape and hopefully wildlife.

I usually shoot primes for Weddings and travel/street etc on my D750 with D7000 backup, but I don't think this will be the best bet for this trip.

Landscapes:
Could maybe manage with my 35 and add a wider prime, either 20 or 24 but I think a wide zoom would work best. any suggestions?

Wildlife:
Hopefully of seeing bears but unlikely to get that close. I was originally thinking a 70-200 but it might not be long enough. Perhaps adding a TC? Or the new 200-500 zoom?

When are you going? This will determine if you're likely to see bears and also what other wildlife will be about.

For a lot of the big wildlife a 300 is OK. You tend to find wildlife jams on the main highways because the wildlife gets so close to the road. I've been a safe distance but still shot bears with a 70-200.

35mm will not be wide enough. I'd look at a 17-xx

I regularly go to the Rockies and know the Eastern Rockies quite well (Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, Icefields Parkway etc) so any questions just shout.

as far as landscapes go your best bet is 16-35 + 24-70 + 70-200mm. Wildlife - maybe something that goes up to and past 400mm.
24mm is quite a good length for landscapes but really you don't want to limit yourself and its not like walking back a few steps will solve it. In fact a step too far can sometimes kill you!

If you get a frame filling shot of a bear at 200mm you'd better have a shotgun ready and loaded! It's already too late to run.

And what's wrong with the kit you've got? Better the gear you know and trust, than whatever latest wonder you don't, though agree its a good opportunity to get a new wide angle bottle.
