I know this is another what camera should I get thread - sorry.

I use to do a lot of photography many years ago and I want to get back into now I got the money and time.
Main use will be for motorsport, Thinking of either the 7d or D300s. I was hoping to get peoples view of both cameras in regard for using for motorsport.
I presuming image quality wise there is not a lot between them?
So I'm really after information regarding autofocus and general use for sport shooting

Aslo another big factor would be lens, I would be after a 70 -200 and for now a 300 f2.8, along with a couple of t/c for extra reach. Any there any real difference in quality between the two makes.
Does one make have a better line up of lens for motorsport than the other?

as well Hopefully would be in the market for a 500 ish prim next year.

So many questions.
Thanks in advance
George

both will do the job with no problems both have high fps and very good af systems, also work out the cost of each system and see what you want and what the difference is, and go and try them see which you like. in a recent reivew a read the canon won just.
i have tried both and prefer the d300 for the af and handling also metering performance.
but the 7d has better high iso slighly(but i did find it noiser than the d300 at low iso 400/800) all my op of course.

It comes down to which feels better really, spec wise both are pretty similar although the 7D has the edge in terms of video if that matters to you

Thanks all for the replies. I have had a play with both bodies in a shop and to be honest they both just felt like cameras, couldn't really chose on handling alone. so it will come down to lenses.

A rough scan of prices is 70 - 200 f2.8 Nikon - £1,629
Canaon - £2,199
300mm f2.8 Nikon - £4,279
Canon - £3,849

lusting after (already?) 500mm f4 Nikon - £6,169
Canon - £5,629

t/c both seem to be around £300
Altough nikon does a 1.7 t/c asnd canon doesn't? This would seem to be handy for using with the 300mm if Im sensible and don't get the 500mm, at least for a year or so:lol:?

Any other lenses that you would consider for motosport, I see nikon does the highly rated 200 - 400 f4 zoom. But I must admit I do fancy a fast prime.
While Canon does do the 400mm f5.6 approx £1,160. But would a 300mm f2.8 with a tc be better than the 400mm 5.6?

Again sorry for all the questions but just trying to get users opinions on the lenses before I go and splash a large wad of cash on them.

Thanks again
George

If it were me......

I would get the D300s. You could get a very good 80-200 F2.8 2nd hand. I have this lens and it suits my needs just fine. Built like a tank as well. You could also get a 300mm (Would be a 450mm On a D300s) F4 prime 2nd hand. Another great lens which is also built like a tank.

That might leave you enough for a Nikon 24-70mm F2.8  I love this lens on my D700. On a D300s it would equate to a 36-105mm.

Just my opinion. Don't count for much but there you go!

Kerso of Flash Camera is worth a look for lenses, if you want to save a few quid. I have used him a few times and outside of paypal (direct transfer of money) and he delivers the goods excellently package and in a timely manner.

I have no idea about the Nikon. I have a 7D and it is great for wildlife and so on but it has quite high noise levels at ISO100 (its higher ISO performance is very good indeed though) and haven't been getting on too well with it at airshows. No idea how it would do with motorsport.
