Candid wedding shots

I've been invited to a wedding in Majorca next month, and have offered to take some candid shots on the day as an additional gift for the bride and groom.

Years ago I did shoot weddings regularly, but to put it in perspective I used a medium format, pre-digital set up with a couple of Bronica 645 bodies and various lenses. My back-up was an EOS 1 with a 28-80 zoom and I found this useful for candid shots, albeit that wasn't really the style in those days ( :) ).

So, to the point - I don't want to make a big fuss out of what's really a small favour and also want to travel light. I'll therefore be taking just one lens with my EOS 500D and the choice is:

EFS 18-55 f3.5 IS kit lens
EF 28-80 USM f3.5
Tamron 55-200 f4 LD Di II

I'm erring towards the 28-80 as an all-rounder but can I ask for some opinions on that choice? Obviously the EOS 1 was full frame, so I'm wondering if the 18-55 may be a better option. That said, the 28-80's field of view, equivalent to 45-130ish, does seem useful. And, of course, the Tamron would allow me to get up close without being intrusive...

Thanks v much.

I'd be inclined to go with the 28-80 personally.

If you are taking candids then the extra range may be useful without pushing the IQ limits too far.

Depends on how you work. I vary from in your face to behind the tree 100M away. The latter being perfect for real PJ candids

Yes, that's what I'm thinking too.

Probably neither, but somewhere in between. Which is saying 28-80 to me.

Thanks guys.
