I've just got back from Paris and connected my 7d up to the tv via HDMI expecting to watch a few videos in hd.
At the end of each day while away I transferred all my photos and videos to my laptop to keep my cards free. Now I'm home I've copied my keepers back to the card to view on the tv via the camera. I know that the error message Image Too Large corresponds to the photos I've processed and are a different resolution to the camera but why am I getting the Cannot Playback Image error when trying to view videos on the camera and tv? They were just transferred to the laptop and back and no editing was done. I viewed them on the laptop in QuickTime and that was all.

You can do that with, amongst other applications, Canon's Zoombrowser EX which is by far the best image viewing application IMO.
 
If I understand correctly, you've simply put the files back on the card with the card out of the 7D (or used a Windows Explorer type operation to copy them back).....this won't work.

You can use Zoombrowser to upload the images back to the 7D (via USB with the card in the 7D) and this should then allow you to hook up the 7D to the TV and play them.

Yeah Bob, I transferred with a card reader using Windows Explorer. Now when I use Zoombrowser to upload a movie or photo back to the card while in the camera I get a message saying "Some of the selected movies cannot be displayed on the camera. Zoombrowser EX will not write back these movies to the memory card".

The movie files haven't been edited in any way, just viewed with Quicktime.

Sounds as if the files may have been corrupted somewhere along the way?
 
They're not corrupted as I can watch them on the laptop. The camera just can't read them.
 
Zoombrowser should still write the files back to the card so they can be trasferred elsewhere. The only time it won't is if the file is corrupt.
