Canon 10-22 Filter advice

Guys

What good quality UV and CPL filters would you advise on getting that wont vignette but still retain front thread for lens cap - if its possible!?

At the moment Im thinking of going for a Hoya Pro1 UV - not sure on CPL at the mo.

or getting the cheaper Kenko Pro1 Wideband CPL and UV

EDIT just read that Kenko are the same as Hoya and then others say that the CPLs vary between then two 'brands' :S

Why are you getting a UV?

B & W filters are very good.
 
not sure tbh! i dont want to use the lens unprotected as it were. i suppose i dont 'have' to get UV...
 
For UV filters you don't actually have to buy a slim frame one as a standard 77mm will still avoid vignetting. For cpl types you may have to as from what i gather you'd probably get a uneven effect anyway due to the extreme wide angle.

Unless you are using the lens in a particularly harsh environment (sand, sea spray etc) do you really need a filter, the hood should provide adequate protection

Just bought a lens with a UV filter , but will soon have that b****r off, only my view, but anything additional must have a negative effect on the optical quality.

Fair enough using a CPL or ND Grad for effect, but just putting plain glass on seems a bit daft and digital doesn't need a UV filter

Precisely for this reason, any filters used should be top quality
 
Ive got the Hoya Pro1D UV and Marumi DHG CPL on the way. Hope its ok. (I went by the lenstip reviews)
 
Interesting thread for me as I faced the same question. Just bought a 10-22 lens and was going to get a HOYA 77mm UV(C) HMC Filter but was worried about vignetting. The Pro 1 is a good deal more expensive but boasts having a "thin" frame to avoid vignetting.
