Canon 10-22, which hood?

This came up recently and I pointed out that Canon Lens + Canon Hood is still much cheaper than Nikon Lens + Free Nikon Hood so I would just buy the Canon Hood and be grateful for cheaper lenses;)

Don't know about that hood- considerations seem to be the fit- many copies don't fit well and the reflective property of the inside of the hood as some are smooth and shiny.

I bought the Canon orginal, if I remember correctly, the price difference was marginal.
 
Marumi hoods are made under licence from Canon so they should be pretty well identical. We've got a bunch of Marumi hoods for some of our 17-55s (for which the Canon hoods often seem to be strangely difficult to obtain) and they're great. Much better than some of the cheap rubbish you see on eBay.

But whether it's worth it ... only you can decide.
 
I'm so glad I bought a cheap Ebay hood for my 10-22. Although it's the same dimensions as the Canon hood, it was a lot cheaper. And I'm glad I didn't waste more money - because I never, ever use it!

It's not that I don't like hoods. All my other lenses have a hood on almost all the time (only certain filters prevent their use). So why don't I use the 10-22 hood? It's too small and too large. It's not very deep at all - so it hardly protects against imapct and rarely helps keeping the Sun off the lens. Besides, this lens is so flare-resistant that having the Sun in frame isn't a problem. But it's diameter is huge - so it takes up masses of space in the bag. So it's pretty useless and very cumbersome, so it never leaves home.

I'd save my money and not get either.
