canon 10-22

can some one just confirm this lens will or wont fit my 1D mk2? 99% sure it wont, I want a wide for both my 1D and 50D

It won't. I ended up selling mine when I sold the 30D :( Nice lens.

I have one and it will fit on the 1D if the plastc cover at the mount end is removed. Also, it cannot be used under 12mm.

Hi Ya, the Sigma lens will not cover the full area of a full frame camera either.
Vignetting will occur.
You need some thing like the 12-24 to cover both cameras.

Canon 10-22 EF-S lens will work on your 50D, but not on your 1D. Sigma's 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM will only work on the APS-C sensors as well, so won't work on a 1D either.

If you want a lens for both camera's then you are looking at either a fisheye lens or something like the 16-35mm f2.8 or 17-40mm f4 EF lenses or third party equivalent, as suggested above, the sigma 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 HSM EX DG

is the 1 d mk2 not a cropped sensor?. already got a 17-35 but fancied going wider

Yes, It is a cropped sensor camera (1.3X), but the 1D will only work with EF lenses or third party equivalents, and not the EF-S lenses intended for use with 300D...500D or 20D...50D range of (1.6X) cropped sensor camera's.

The 1D is APS-H size is it not? (1.3x), so the Sigma will not work properly.

Depends which version of 1D you've got. 1D Mkiin which I have is a 1.3x cropped sensor (used for sports photography), will work with EF lenses, won't work with EF-S lenses. The 1Ds versions are Full Frame so will only work with EF lenses.

According to this review, the sigma 12-24mm is a full frame lens
it is the most extreme full-frame ultra-wide zoom on the market today with no competition around

There is a mod that would enable you to use your 10-22 on the 1D, google it.

That's why I said 1D (not 1Ds);)

Thanks for the pointer to the 12-24 - must look into that!

Must say, I loved my Canon 10-22; really missed it when I moved to the 5D / 1D, but could not justify keeping the 30D just for that (especially as I'd promised my better half I would put the money towards the new lens that has just magically appeared in my bag :))
