Hello,

Currently using this lens on a 500D but am pricing up to go full frame in the new year. I understand that the lens can be modified to attach to a 5D Mk2 to avoid damaging it's shutter/mirror mechanism. Anyone done it or know what to do?

Cheers

Trevor

Don't bother trying. Sell it and replace with a 17-40?

Yup thats what I did. However I'd love the 16-35 but only for the extra couple of stops you get :D

Trevor, obviously it's up to you if you go ahead with the mod.

Found by Googling your question.
As previouly mentioned you could try swopping your lens for a 17-40, probably safer.

The above is with an 1D which is an 1.3x crop body. With the full frame 5D I would expect many more problems and if you value your mirror you should go with a full frame lens:

1. Sigma 12-24mm
2. Sigma 15-30mm
3. Canon 17-40mm

Or even a Tokina 11-16mm which works fine between 13/14 and 16mm on full frame and does not interfere with the mirror, giving you an 2.8 aperture without costing as much as the 16-35mm.

Trevor,
About halfway down the second page of the above link are some pics taken with a 5d and a 10-22 lens. Notice the widest you can use safely is 12mm,
even then there is some vignetting. As I mentioned it would be up to you !
