Hi there would like people thoughts on which lens they would go for here.

Im seeing the Canon on the bay for about £100 new £329(not sure if this is the same model mind you) and the Sigma for about £80 on the bay and £150 new.

I would like to see what model people would use if faced with this choice.

No Experience of the Sigma.

Had the Canon 100-300, bought second hand off e-bay (so may not have been in perfect state).

In good light I liked the results I got from it, in bad light the images were soft especially at 300mm, but then again I was just learning, not using a tripod and prob had some bad technique. In good light, it's a nice lens, there's just not always a lot of good light in the UK!

I then moved on to a 70-200 L f4 and it's a majestic lens. I found I missed the 300mm but preferred a sharper image and f4 at 200mm than a soft image at 300mm.

If I was you I'd either buy second hand off the bay, or save up a bit more if you can and, if you can live without the 300mm, get the 70-200 or the Canon 70-300 IS.

I think if oyu get the 100-300 you will be happy with it for a while but will end up trading up.

Good luck

Al
