Quick question is there a big difference between the mk1 v mk2?

quick answer - yes

Yes.

mk2 = better sharpness, quicker af, better IS, better build quality.

I've not used the Mk1 but recently bought a Mk2, I don't regret paying the extra for the Mk2 as the quality of photo I've had from it have been fantastic. Although this was an upgrade from a Mk1 Sigma 70-200 f2.8 the focus speed, sharpness and IS outweighs the aperature size advantage more than enough.

I made the change from 1 to 2, and this:
Yes.
mk2 = better sharpness, quicker af, better IS, better build quality.
is the crux of it.

The only negative I've found (very minor), is the tripod foot is smaller than the mk1, meaning it won't steadily support the body hanging off the back when sitting on the table or such like.
In fact, I just took the foot off it for this reason and just rest it on the camera body instead.
