canon 100-400 vs sigma 150-500

ok guys, at present i own the canon 100-400, and ive also previously owned the sigma 150-500, now ive been reading alot of reviews about both these pieces of glass and seems the siggy holds its own against the canon, even to the point where some say the siggy has better iq and from what ive read the OS system on the siggy blows the IS of the canon out of the water, so my debate is do i sell my 100-400 and get a 150-500 or do i stick with the 100-400, the lens will mainly be used for airshows and surfing ect.

For air shows and surfing, superior image stabilisation is of no benefit surely? I mean, you're not going to want to shoot slower than 1/100th, and the Canon is easily capable of that if you have half-decent technique.

That just leaves the extra reach of the Sigma - handy for surfing - versus the superior ergonomics of the Canon. Personally I'd keep the Canon. You can zoom and frame shots so fast, you can get images which you simply couldn't get with another lens. You can always crop a little if you don't have quite enough reach, but if you don't get the shot in the first place.....

Having owned the Sigma 150-500 which is a great lens, I can't honestly see that you would gain a great deal in swapping, the extra 100mm doesn't make as much difference as you would think from the numbers. Yes the OS system is far superior and if buying from scratch may swing the decision to a Sigma, but in your circumstances I would stay with the Canon if I'm honest.
