Yes
after borrowing my 100-400 to a friend for an airshow (1st mistake) my lens has somehow acquired a large spec of something, its not the usual dust that this lens is a custom to.
Anywhow, how do i go about getting it cleaned? any advice would be much appreciated. matt

Try Canon @ Elstree - they may offer a fixed price clean / service package ?

There is also Fixation, Colchester Cameras, H Lehmans or A J Johnstone's that maybe worth a call / e-mail ...

Hope this is of help.

I have just had my 100-400 services / cleaned at Elstree and couldn't be more impressed. The standard charge is £110, and for that they also replaced many parts of the lens ( so many so it was given a new serial number) and all the extra parts & work were uncharged as "good will". The lens came back as if it were new.

I've been quoted 140 pounds for a standard service, remove the first specs of what looks like fungus on the inside of the lens and replace the rubber zoom lock band by a camera shop in Norfolk. Turn around is about two days.

Thanks mate, think that's what might be occurring with mine, doesn't show up in shots but just a bit annoying!

Now that part of what you say is IMO very odd because if memory serves without getting my 100-400 out to check the serial number is stamped/engraved on a major part...........................and why would that part need replacing unless it was damaged??? What does the service invoice/report say about what they did?

There were some bad scratches from some grit which had got into the lens. I assumed they would just clean it etc and I would be left with the scratches, but they replaced everything which was marked (all specified in the invoice). Excellent service, and it was back faster than the quoted ten working days.
