Canon 1000d lens

Hi everyone.

Sorry but yet another 'what lenses post'. I've been doing as much study as I can and basically just going around in circles on what to do.

I'm a very amateur photographer using a Canon 1000d (which I'm going to keep using till it busts before upgrading ) and using the original kit 18-55 non is kit lens and a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS.

I'm doing a photography course so interested in a wide selection of photo's including portrait, landscape and wildlife (all the usual) and I've been thinking on what to get. Not got a great deal of money, around £300 and wondering if its worth getting a couple of cheapish lenses like the new canon kit 18-55 is lens and a cheap canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II. Or buy a single lens with the money. Or even look at sigmas and tamron's.

I don't see a great need for IS at 18-55 so not sure you would benefit from the change there. If you are happy with the range of the 18 - 55 you could get something like a Tamron 17 - 50 2.8 which should do a better job, and has a lower constant aperture.
I am not sure why you are interested in the 50 1.8 but the 2.8 is not that far away from it which may or may not matter.

Look through your photos and see what the average or most common focal lengths you have used. If you are using 55 a lot then maybe think about a longer zoom, if using 18 a lot then don't and so on.
