Alright all, i was thinking about getting my lovely wife a new camera for her up and coming birthday and i was wondering what the 1000d was like looks good value for the money but was wondering if anybody had one and what they are like in the real world

I have one and I'm very happy with it.

That said, it's my first ever SLR/DSLR and I have absolutely nothing to make a comparison with.

Not sure if this is helpful to you, but I have no regrets whatsoever with buying mine.

Same here, a big improvement over the compact cameras.
