They have it at £500 and it is described as the L IS version, but the photo shows the old one. If it is the new one then I am getting very tempted to upgrade.

Any thoughts?

looks like a bargain... I've just taken a punt and ordered one, if the older lens arrives I'll just send it back for a refund. If the IS one does get delivered it will finally be time to sell my Sigma 105.
 
Based on the spec listed, filter thread size etc... it's the L lens... Also having a dig around revealed...

Just ordered one.. hopefully it'll be honoured!

I'm kind of optimistic that they will if it IS a mistake. Generally, if something's £700 and they've put it down as £70, then they probably won't. But the difference between £700 and £500ish? Hmm... I suspect that they might!

thier T&C state if a mistake has been made, then they are not legally bound to offer at that price, lets hope its the IS version and we get it before the mistake realised :naughty:
 
the more people ordering and discussing it in forums will definitely alert them to a mistake.

Got to the point of paying then realised I didn't really have any use for it at all
(sold my non IS version a few months back)

Was only getting one because of the price and why deprive somebody who would actually use it

Greed can be a bad thing, good luck to all who have taken the plunge
(might be lucky, got a washing machine which I really did need from them under similar circumstances and they came across)

That's what I thought too :)

Google shopping brings it up as the best offer. I went through Quidco for 3% cashback and used code TDX-24R8 for £5 off when spending over £50.

Won't be holding my breath for this one to come off.
 
Well, after some people did get the great deal on the Amazon 70-200 I've decided to order a brace of these. My friend was planning on buying one anyway and I'd like to replace my old, non-IS, version. I'm sure it'll end up being the old version and Tesco will just have to take it back. It might mean there's a lot of second-hand non-IS lenses available on their site soon.

If it appears to be too good to be true, it probably is.

Lesson two.

If you come across one of these 'mistakes' again, keep it to yourself, you will have more chance of it actually being honoured.

Bah, just had the call!

Had a laugh with the guy though; he said that they've been phoning loads of people to confirm cancellation - he wished that Tesco would honour misprices to save him some work ;)

Ah well, it was worth a try!!
 
I'm glad really - didn't have the £500 to spend and still be able to get the 100-400 zoom.

I thought that if they took the payment they had to honour the price error as they have formed a contract, it's only if no payment has been made that they dont have to honour a price error.

Might be worth a call to Tesco's and seeing if they honour it???

That might be what they say, but this says different



The first phrase is ‘invitation to treat’ – this basically refers to the action of a seller, merchant or trader advertising or displaying their goods or services that are on offer. When the consumer offers to purchase the goods or services, legally the seller is not obliged to accept their offer. As aforementioned, the contract is only made and begins once the seller has accepted the offer of purchase. This also applies when the roles are reversed and the seller makes an offer to the buyer – in this case, the contract begins once the buyer accepts the offer.


The second phrase refers to something known as ‘consideration’ within the contract. Essentially, ‘consideration’ refers to the agreement and made by the consumer in the contract, which usually translates as an obligation to pay the seller the agreed sum of money. A contract will not exist if the seller has offered their goods or services to the buyer free of charge

The pricing on items like this is determined by their competitors - if everyone is discounting on the kit version then they will price match but that doesn't mean they'll revise their pricing on the body only.

I've been through this with a couple of different lawyers in the past - it's true that if a contract has been formed then they must fulfil their part however within contract law it's pretty standard to define the point of contract within the terms themselves.
Just because it's often formed at the point of payment doesn't mean that it always is - most online retailers will define it as the point of dispatch.
