Canon 100mm Lens Hood

Round lens hoods will cover the image circle, which means that there will be unnecessary gaps at the top and sides that a direct light source could come through and strike the lens element. A square hood will avoid this and keep the original aspect, they fetch around £20 I believe!
 
Yeah I get the theory, but I've only ever seen them on old film cameras. Modern Lenses all have the round or "petal" hoods.

Have you got a link to proper fitting one or do you think he has screwed one into the filter thread?
