Hello,

I have just purchased a new Canon 1200D. I am not an expert in photography so I am hoping someone can help me here.

When I try and take a close up photo (or any photo) the lens seems to adjust itself an awful lot and take quite a few seconds in doing so which doesn't seem normal. Also, when I try and take a close-up it has a red square in the centre of the screen and won't let me take the photo.

Please advise?

Thank you.

Lenses have a minimum focal distance in that they cannot focus if too close to the subject, you are trying to focus within that distance (usually written on the lens somewhere),move further away from the subject and try again.

You're too close. A lens has a minimum focussing distance. For really close shots you need a lens with a very short minimum focussing distance.

If you've got a zoom lens, setting it to the *widest* setting usually lets you get closer than if you're zoomed in.
