Canon 135mm L question

Hi,

It's been pointed out to me that the focus barrel [the bit with the rubber grip] moves back and forth by 1-2mm, [when you physically pull it back and forth, it doesn't happen on its own] I suppose it's ever so slightly loose?
I'm intending to sell so would appreciate any opinions on this, I'd put it down to being normal for a lens of this age - 2007. My 70-200mm L, which I bought brand new probably moves 1mm when you try the back and forth motion.
Any thoughts - damaged or normal wear?

I've just checked mine and there is hardly any movement or play, less than 1mm, so there is possibly an issue with your lens.

If you think about it, movement/play/wear should be minimal as it is only used for manual focus and doesn't rotate under 'normal' auto focus.

I would think most peeps will use auto focus.
 
I have that amount of play on some old Canon FD lenses and they are really quite worn...and manual focus. None of my EF lenses have any play at all.

It's a difficult one to weigh up. Would the expense of any repair be gained when you sold it over just coming clean and accepting a possibly lower price.
 
Get it serviced and that will make the lens A1, then when you come to sell this will reduce all negotiations to the price only and not the condition.

Leave it as it is and it will put most buyers off, me included.

Phone Canon and see if they have a set price for a service on that lens.

Cool, thanks I'll give then a ring, anyone had a lens serviced by Canon before?
 
Put it like this, if I bought that lens from you with the fault undeclared, you'd get it straight back with a fairly blunt note. And if you declared the fault, not knowing what had happened to it or what was wrong, I'd either not buy it or want a very a hefty discount to cover any potential repairs.

On the other hand, if you get it fixed, it might only cost a few quid to get things tightened up and the lens would be 100%. You could then maybe even get a little premium with a bit of warranty thrown in.

PS Give you a couple of hundred quid as is ;) :D

I've emailed fixationuk for a quote, I'll be getting it repaired before it's put up for sale! I got the lens last year, I should of checked it over more carefully then:bonk: Dam...
