canon 15-85 vs 18-55 kit lens

hi everybody,don't know if this question has been posed before,but im thinking of buying the canon 15-85 lens,will it be significantly better/sharper than my current kit lens(18-55),i have other lenses but would like a decent walk around lens.

Got my 15-85 when I bought my 7D four years ago, it is a cracking lens with a usable focal range, apart from shooting Birds it never comes off the camera.

thanks,do you think its worth shelling out the £500 ,i love the focal range on it,but want a significant improvement in quality on my 18-55 to warrant spending the money
