Canon 15-85 ?

A pal of mine designs his own hi-fi furniture and has started shooting his own products.

The problem is, he's using a confined loft space and has borrowed his brother's 24-105L on his 50D.

I've suggested he gets something more suitable such as the 15-85 IS

He shoots pretty much at or above f16 and doesn't want to spend more than £400 (less if possible).

Would this be a decent choice ?

This or maybe a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 (not that he needs anything that fast).

The 17-55IS is probably just outside his price range.

Any nods of approval or alternatives ?

The 15-85 is a pretty decent lens and the focal length would be comparable to the 24-105 used on a FF camera. However dependent on space 15mm might still not be wide enough. The problem with ultra wide though would possibly the distortion of the product.

That's what I was thinking Ken. I didn't want to recommend him going too wide so thought the 15-85 the best compromise.
 
what about the Tokina 12-24? great lens and gives you the ultrawide if needed but goes far enough at 24 to not distort and at around £270 -290 within budget
