Canon 16-35mm f/4

I received mine a couple days ago and today was it's first outing. Well, the first impressions are pretty good. The sharpness is amazing stopped down across the frame, so I am very happy I dumped the 17-40 a while ago. CA is barely there to start with and IS appears to do real wonders. I think even 1/20s can yield very usable images, which means a lot more flexibility shooting without tripod.
The negatives are plastic filter thread and seemingly strong vignetting, but that could be down to BW 3 stop filter? Nevertheless this is by far the best wide zoom lens canon has ever produced. By a long margin.

I will write a proper review over next few weeks when I have more pics for illustration. Newcastle is on the radar tomorrow - it should be a great test.

My only question now is - do I offload Samyang 14mm?

That pretty much reflects my thoughts too, Daugirdas......a big improvement over the 17-40 (the corners are excellent for a wide zoom).

It doesn't play well with the sun on, or near, the frame though....flare can rear it's head. The following shot is a nerdy attempt to induce as much flare as possible without having the sun in the frame. I should add that this is on an IR converted body which can induce some additional reflections. It's nearly possible to count the elements and groups in the image.

The samyang 14mm is handy to keep if you do astro photography or northern lights. Personally I prefer their 24mm f1.4 for that.
My new 16-35 f4 is winging its way to Skye as I type.

If you have any intentions of moving to full frame any time soon (from only £300-400 for an older body) then 16-35mm should be an obvious investment. It would be a little underused on a crop body if I am honest.
