Canon 17-55 2.8? or 24-70 2.8. Canon 7D.

Hi all,

I photograph Motorsport and currently have a 300 F4 prime. Love this lens!

But need a Smaller zoom for my 7D, now I've been saving for the 24-70 2.8 L series lens BUT after much thought, and as the 7D is cropped I thought I would be better off going for something wider, as for driver portraits it would be much better. I like wide stuff!

What do you think, it's just the 17-55 not being L series and people saying the build is bad that is putting me off.

I do not own either lens, however a 24-70 is not real wide of a crop body camera.

For driver portraits (mostly head shots) I tend to go long.

Thanks, I have to say they look better from long distance, but like I say I do like a wide angle.

The only issues I've heard about the Canon 17-55mm IS EF-S is its a bit of a dust magnet, but never heard anything about build quality other than its not a mag body.

Another option is the 15-85mm IS EF-S which ain't a bad lens although f3.5-5.6
