Canon 18-55 IS????

Hi,

I have been offered a pre-owned 18-55 IS for £65. The RRP is approx £115?
I have just seen one on ebay £68 from Thailand.

Is the Thai original? :shrug: Are there fakes? If so, how can you tell?

I'm not sure on how to tell for fake lenses, but to be honest I'd stick to buying them from here! That's just my preference though, there are plenty of people who have had good deals from traders on ebay!

I sold my 18-55 IS lens for £75 on the forums here, if you put a wanted ad in the classifieds section, I'm sure someone will have one that you could buy!

I've been trying to get one on here for weeks, guess I'm too slow, or not on enough.

I would put an add in the wanted section but as a newbie my access is restricted?

Afraid so - 100 posts... I'm in the same boat.

Maybe just keep this thread going for long enough and someone might come along with one for sale and offer it to you on this one?

I'd imagine it's a no-no!

If you don't mind spending a little more, MPB Photographic have one for sale here, they're one of the few companies that are allowed to advertise on the forums. I'm fairly sure you get some kind of warranty or guarantee as well, which you wouldn't get in a private sale.... Just something to think about!

Thanks for the links guys. Yes it is the IS version I'm looking at as I already have a non IS lens.

So can I take it that there is no known fake canon lens?

Correct. No fakes.

Is there some reason why you don't just buy the lens you've already been offered? Seems like a reasonable price.

Oops sorry i posted the wrong one, thought that was the IS version.:bang:

They do also do the IS version but for £90 here, but you may as well save the money and get the one you've been offered.
