Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but it is equipment related so...
While in Sri Lanka the autofocus failed on the kit lens for my 2 year old 450D. The failure, however, is only in one direction. It's difficult to describe as I'm a noob as far as camera tech goes, but if you go clockwise (as you look through the viewfinder) beyond the point of focus and go anti-clockwise 'back' it works fine. In the other direction it refuses to budge - you can see it trying but the movements it is making are of a definite 'I'm stuck' variety.
I've now replaced it, but I have a lens that is not much use as it is.
So, to settle my piece of mind, what's actually wrong with it?
Is it repairable, and if so does anyone have any recommendations as to where should I send it? Is it going to cost more money than it's worth to repair it?
Or should I just take a precision screwdriver to it for fun & see what's in there?
TIA
