Canon 1D and Tokina 11-16mm?

Hi, would anyone have or know of any sample shots taken with 1.3x Canon 1D and Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8? What is the widest usable setting for "full frame" or 5x7 crop?
It will be used pretty much wide open and if you know me I expect a sharp shot from corner to corner. The subject - The Milky Way and Aurora.

I am considering one for Norway trip in a few weeks should it go ahead. I am not sure there is enough time to acquire 5DIII and a decent wideangle for it (some Zeiss or 16-35II I would guess, but not entirely happy with either choice so I am waiting for Canon to release something new). 17-40 f/11 is definitely not shooting any auroras.

I think 1DIII has slightly cleaner ISO3200 and much better battery than 1DsII for that purpose, but I need to consider only 10MP issue.

If I take Ds, would Samyang 14mm do a sharp job? From 24mm I think 24-70mm will be good enough.

One interesting option might be the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, which I own (and Beau Photo sells!) and decided to test on the Mark IV. Although technically a cropped sensor lens (1.6x), the Tokina does not have the protruding rear component that all Canon EF-S lenses have. Therefore, the Tokina can even be mounted on a full-frame camera like the 5D Mark II. On a 5D, the Tokina will only give a sharp and unvignetted field of view at 16mm. Go any wider and the corners will suffer big time. Not surprising really since that lens was never meant to be used with a full-frame camera! However on a 1D Mark IV, with its slightly smaller sensor, this lens can easily be used all the way down to 12mm if stopped down a little, and even nearly wide open from 14-16mm with excellent quality. This gives a noticeably wider FOV, at a 15.6mm equivalent when zoomed to 12mm, so now you have a (very limited range) ultra-wide zoom for a 1.3x crop camera! Image quality at 16mm was actually slightly better on the Tokina than the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II zoom I tested it together with.

again no images, seems people have used this lens with the 1D but didn't have much luck finding any images

Only experience I have was putting mine on a 5D which worked fine at about 14.5mm so I see no reason why it won't work great at around 13mm on a 1.3x.
 
I have one but have not used it much, as I rarely photograph anything at that focal length.

On a 1d mk4 you can use it from about 13mm, any less and you will start to see black corners.
 
good to hear the above mention of the TOKINA 11-16 (first version) .. is compatible with a full frame!... just about to upgrade to a 5Dmark3 and was about to (reluctantly) sell my Tokina!!!! :love:that lens...

any one used it on 5D3 ? ... would love to hear if its as good at 16mm as Rockwell says
