Yes
I don't know why or how, but the flash assist light is not functioning on my 1d, though it was earlier.

Personal function #15 on my camera says AF-assist is turned off, but i can't work out how to turn it on.

The manusl states,

Only P.Fn-00 (Custom Function group registration) can be set with the camera.

So how do i set it?

On my 1D Mk2 personal functions can only be set while the camera is connected to a computer with the firewire cable. You will need EOS Utility, which you can download from Canon. Hope this helps.

I'll have to try and download the software now, not sure if i have a firewire cable though.

I thought there may have been some button short cut for it, as it was working before.

Cheers.

Is the eos utility software common for all model, or are there different versions.

I don't have it for the 1d and it can't be downloaded. I have tried installing the copy i got with my 40d, but it's not doing anything when i connect the 1d up via usb (i don't have a firewire cable).

I use EOS Utility with my 1D Mk2, 5D and the wifes 40D so I guess it works with all Canon DSLR's. You will have to use a firewire cable to change any of the settings on the 1D.
