1d mk 111 is a 1.3x crop, 1d mk 4 is a 1.3xcrop the 1ds mk111 is full frame, and the 1ds mk4 when it comes out will be full frame and expensive.

now im confused !!!
Canon do a EOS 1D Mark III they also do a EOS 1D mark IV so that being the first one is a mark 3 and the latter a mark 4, right :shrug:
or have I got the wrong end of the stick because Ive just been told that the mark 4 is not out yet ???
in terms of price, the M III is far more than the M IV which if the newer one is the IV then it still does not make sense ???

There are two product lines.
The 1D which is a 1.3 'crop' APS-H sensor and shoots in the region of 10 frames per second. The current model is the 1D mark IV.
The 1Ds which is a 'full frame' high megapixel sensor and shoots about 5 frames per second. The current model is the 1Ds mark III.
The 1Ds line is more expensive than the 1D line.
