Canon 1D mk3 Flash Question

Will the new 600RT flash work on this or is there a better solution? Only asking as I've never had a flash gun on this camera before and wasn't sure if the new technology would mix with the old thanks in advance

Perhaps he would be paying top dollar for tech that has no advantage over a cheaper bit of kit? I don't know the answer, but I think it's a good question.

Because since the mk 3 they have released 2 more 1d models so I'm just checking before I purchase a flash gun ;-)
