Well I know there's quite a few MK II users here and hope this issue is easily fixed

Today I was a bike race and made four memory card changes during the day,Got home looked at a few images on the 4th memory card to go in my camera and then wanted to have a look at the images from the other cards,Opened the memory card door, ejected the card and put in the other (same as i have every time)Close the card door,Press the image preview button,Nothing,Flick camera on and off,Nothing,Change batteries,nothing..

At this point I'm kinda' panicking,my only camera bought used, and can't afford to buy another.

Take everything off/out of the camera,Get my older half dead battery put it in,nothing open the memory card door and use a rocket blower thing close it and yay we have life,At this point I'm calm again,Pop open the door, put in a card and close it,The red light doesn't flash the camera doesn't come on,Now posting this thread seeking some help

Someone?

Thanks in advance

I have a feeling there's dust blocking a micro sensor or something...May have to open it up?

When you open the card door on the camera it powers down the camera and is effectively an ON/OFF switch. It sounds like a faulty switch on the door only intermittently making contact again when you close it?

+1 I've heard of those microswitches going in other bodies and have ogled the one in my 50d and it would cause a similar issue

In fact, I've just had a look at the 50D and there's a little micro switch on the edge of the card slot which is activated by a plastic protrusion on the inside of the door lid. If you press the switch while the door is open with a paper clip or similar, it powers up the camera. Your 1D has to have a similar arrangement.

Hey cheers for the reply,Seems one of my cards has got messed up in my card reader meaning I've lost 800 or so racing images thanks to a crap card reader, when i use a different card it powers up and works but if i put that back in everything goes dead

I DO NOT recommend mymemory.co.uk card readers

b****r! At least you seem to be sorted Richard. I recently got a Sandisk Extreme card reader - absolutely brilliant and silly fast.

still would be worth running some recovery s/w on that card to see if there is anything that can be recovered, best to try that that when you have your new card reader connected to your computer.

Thanks all,Not looking good for the card,Will pick up a new card reader and download some recovery software and hopefully(fingers crossed) it'll pick them up!If not i'll contact sandisk
(still under warranty)and see what they have to say

May be worth checking the sockets on the card to see if there is any crud in there, could be something causing a short.

Give it a blow out with compressed air / blower.
