Canon 1d mkii n and a 100-400mm with a 1x4

Hi, just need some quick info regarding the above set up . Am i correct in saying that i will still get AF with centre point only with a 1x4 at f8 with a 1D MKII N AND THE 100-400MM 5.6 IS L.Thanks

it works but very slowly if in anything other than bright light and if you try to hit a fast moving target you will quickly lose the will to live
and the first grey cloud that appears will have you wondering if it works at all

I used that exact combination in S.Africa a couple of years ago, very slow to focus and not too impressed with the results.

I recently bought a Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x TC and that retains AF when used with a Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L on a 7D and on a 5DMkII. Even though it registers as f8 it will still AF in decent light (i.e. normal ambient daylight) and not just bright sunlight and without having to tape any contacts or such.
