Canon 1D mkII - No camera was found

I've updated my Eos Utility to the latest version available and I've installed the latest firmware update, 1.2.6 but still when I connect my 1Dmk2 to my Imac I get the No Camera Was Found message.

Anyone know of a solution?
 
Was it finding it before you updated the EOS Utility ??

Did you update the EOS utility by choosing your body and operating system on Canon software site, or just choose the latest version of Utility ??

No, I'd heard it had to be firewire for mac but then read in as many places that usb was ok.

I got a 5d1 and a 1d2around the same time. 5d1 came with discs which I installed, 5d hooked up fine, 1d2 didn't.
Went on the Canon site, chose 1d2 installed latest version from there.
Still doesn't see it.
Checked firmware, v 1.2.4 updated to 1.2.6, no change.
 
If I remember right you can download images from the 1D2 with the usb lead, but you need to use the firewire lead to change any of the settings. As soon as I plug my 1D2 into my mac EOS Utility opens.
 
Use the USB lead for uploading photos to a mac, but a card reader is quicker and easier.;)
 
A 1D2 needs firewire to "talk" to the PC, although usb will download the pictures but the custom functions require firewire, which I understand is very flakey and often doesnt work, certainly doesnt on mine despite getting a firewire card and cable for my laptop. Complete waste of time and from what I understand can often be down to the "board" in the camera which is expensive to repair. I understand they went away from it with the Mk3.

I use a card reader to do downloads but it was to change the custom settings I wanted to be able to connect the camera.
Will I need firewire to connect to a pc laptop or is it only needed with Macs?
 
Have you anyone with a Windows XP PC, I know it works with this combo. :)
 
Think the laptop runs xp so I might be in luck.
Is it with firewire or usb that you have experience of it working?
 
You'll need to use the firewire for the EOS Utility and to change user info & personal functions for both PC and Mac. You don't necessarily need to use a PC with XP loaded, the key thing is that it's 32bit. I've not tried Win7 32bit but my Vista32bit laptop will talk to my 1Ds2 quite happily whilst the 64bit desktop won't.
 
Just in case you aren't already aware, be sure to check the firewire port on your laptop to make sure you get the right cable (the 1d2 has a 4 pin port) and both the laptops we have are also 4 pin.

If I need to get a firewire cable I'll be using the Mac. I'm sure google will help me buy the right thing.
 
I couldn't get mine to work with Firewire, I've also heard that it's a fairly common fault with them.
 
Firewire cable ordered.
Just a cheapo one from ebay, we'll see if it does the trick.
I'm not holding my breath.
