Hi all, i'm shortly going to be in a position to buy a 1D MKIII. Depends on funds as to whether its a new one or used. What i want to know is what have i got to look out for if buying used, other than the obvious. What problems are they susceptible to, shutter, focussing. How can i check the shutter count. Also what does the blue spot on the box signify?
Sorry for so many questions but this is going to be a big investment for me and i dont want to buy a dud.

Thanks in advance

Hi Len, If you can try buying with some kind of warranty. A friend of mine actually has a very good one for sale. The blue spot signifies it has had the sub mirror fix, The early 1D mk3's were a tad notorious for focus tracking faults so Canon did a recall. If you buy used you are still entitled to this and Canon will check and return all prepaid and cannot be faulted for this service. I know as i did this to my old 1D mk3 to be on the safe side.
Check the body for scuffs and dings, This should give you an idea how it's been treated. Take a lens with you and take some test shots of static and moving objects and download them before buying if you can. Take shots in one shot and Servo mode.
Just use common sense and take a check list of all things to look for in case you forget. I'm sure there will be more advice coming from other forum members soon :)
