Canon 1D range query

I don't know the Canon 1D range very well, which of the 1D range/models are full frame please?

Are they mainly used for sports photography, or can they be used for general/landscape photography?

The ds range are full frame the d only model is 1.3 crop
Both have very good auto focus systems but the ds would have slower shooting speeds( fps)
 
1D range have 1.3x crop (APS-H) sensors.
1Ds range have full-frame sensors.

As far as I know, 1Ds is used more for sports with its 10fps burst speed, while the 1D is better suited for general photography. I could easily be wrong though. :p
Both have great autofocus systems though, and are built like fighter jets :lol:

The other way round - 1Ds is ~4fps and is a wonderful all-round camera. 1D is 10fps sports beast, but also quite good for everything else.

the 1DsMKIII is a high megapixel full frame unit well suited for studio, architecture, and general purpose photography. The 1DMKIV is better for fast paced phtography such as, photojournalism, motorsport, wild life and birds in flight. Also, as well as being 1.3x crop, it has a slightly faster AF than it's big sister.

Amazing how many post the wrong answers to questions without checking!

As stated though the 1Ds series (latest is the 1Ds MkIII) is a full frame camera suitable for all types of photography. The 1D series (latest is the 1D MkIV) is an amazing sports camera with a 1.3x crop.
 
Going back to the original question/s......

As others have said the full frame versions are the 1DS series whilst the 1D series are 1.3 crop.

Whilst the 1.3 croppers are great for sport and wildlife there's certainly no reason why they can't be used for landscapes. There's a lot to be said (with the right lenses) for the build quality and weather sealing that makes them great for the great outdoors.

The only problem with the 1D cameras is they don't do very wide angles, due to their reduced field of view, and they don't take EF-S lenses (though some people modify the EF-S 10-22m and make it fit/work, kind of).

But as long lens action cameras, they're pretty much peerless.

I agree with you but you could team one with a Sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG Aspherical HSM Lens you have a 16mm lens on the 1d wide enough for most i would say :D

I've shot landscapes with my 1D Mk2 and it has been fine but I don't tend to shoot massively wide much of the time.

The 1Ds is a very good cheaper way into full frame, they go on ebay for £500-600 and whilst they're not the quickest thing in the world to use the quality is superb, they're weathersealed (useful when the weather turns on you) and the build quality is excellent, you could hammer nails in with them.

Only with an L series long lens though, the body is just too big to use anything less than 200mm as a handle.

I've a 1DMk2, it will do anything you want of it. Later D (not Ds) versions -
2N - better camera a good upgrade, handles better etc, IQ about he same
3 - in some people's eyes not much of an IQ upgrade, not much better in terms of AF etc
4 - best of the bunch BUT can be time consuming to set up AF the way you want it (or so I'm told).

Ds - much like the 5D, it will do motorsport but it wasnt designed with that as its primary capability, still a damn fine camera though.

I too have the 1Dmk2 and love it! Used it at a mountain bike enduro other week and the tracking ability was amazing, loved the way it was tack sharp as bikes got closer and closer. Just need to find a decent mid range lans to go with it now (any suggestions?)

I used a 1D MKiiN with a 200 f1.8 at Burghley the other week and the tracking was superb, imho much better than my 7d.....just a pity that the camera/lens was lent to my by a mate and not my own!!
