Canon 1D-X - Question - Shooting modes

I'm working with someone that has a 1D-X (I only have a 5d2) and noticed that when scrolling throught the shooting modes, and seeing the familiar TV, AV and P, there was another P mode (I seem to remember it was P with a little 1 next to it) - what's this extra P mode, as I can't find it referenced in any instruction manual? Do any 1D-X owners have the same additional mode? and if so, would you mind explaining in what way it's different to a traditional P mode? Thanks :)
 
Chris, there isn't another dedicated shooting mode on the 1Dx as such.

What your colleague has done is customised some of the settings whilst in Program shooting mode. The menu screen should show P1 C. The C indicating its a custom function. Hope that helps.
 
Ah - that could make sense - yes it was a C now you mention it. So by customising something in P mode you get the PC mode. I would have thought that in P mode you wouldn't be able to customise anything. Is there a way to find out what's been customised?

That's correct. I think in P mode you can set up to 3 CF's, but you can set a CF in any of the shooting modes. You can check what's set by going into that mode or checking the CF menus themselves. Be careful though if you want to delete a CF. I've read somewhere that if you delete a CF whilst in a particular mode or something that it will delete ALL CF's on/in the camera.
 
They are a new owner - and haven't yet taken it out of P mode - so not even sure how they set something to custom function anyway :) Their last camera was an Iphone - so the 1d-x is not bad as a first camera is it?

As you've probably seen, the instruction manual is very comprehensive (over 400 pages). I'd strongly advise they read it and not rely on the Quick Guide. There is also a Firmware update which they might need. The new one is V2.0.3 from memory but if they go to the website www.canon.co.uk go to the support site and select their camera it gives details, instructions to download etc there.
 
Yes it needs new firmware - I already saw that - it's still on v1.x

It's someone that when they say 'Oh I need a new camera' the husband went out and bought the 1D-X, three 'L' lenses, the 600RT flash and a host of other stuff, just so that she could get started... (I calculate the kit to cost in the region of £10k).

But hey, we all have to start somewhere don't we?
 
If it's on V1 I assume it wasn't purchased new. If so, it's been wherever for a long time.
