I currently own a 1d3, but as I'm not really shooting action much now I was thinking i may swap it for a 5d2. I'm reckoning i could do with the larger mp and iso performance than 10fps and fast af.
Has anyone else made this swap, or, what are people's opinions.
Could really do with some wisdom.
Cheers
Dean.

I have just got a 5D mk2, I also own s 1D3 and at the moment, I feel IQ is as good if not better on my 1D :(

It is early days though and I'm expecting once I have got to grips with it....the balance will slide in the other direction ?

I can't bring myself to do that, it will have to be 5Dmk3. Likewise I don't need 10fps, but I could do with at least 16MP on that one. The problem with mk2 is AF accuracy as much as speed. It would be OK if I only did architecture and landscape in good weather, but sadly that's not the case, although 5DIIs are now suitably cheap (and so are 1d3 :( )

This is intersting for me

I currently have a 40D and a 1D2 and had considered swapping both for one body.

I shoot a 50/50 mix of birds and landscapes but both limit me with wildlife ISO.

For landscapes I wanted to go full frame and was close to a 5D2 but the attraction of the AF and crop of 7D for wildlife had me swithering to the point that I went for neither.

I thought the 1D3 might be the answer (best of both) but again didn't make a move.

Now 5D2 / 7D and 1D3 can be had (used) for a good price

It's easy for you - any upgrade will be a considerable step up, maybe except for 1D2-to-5D2 AF which will be not quite as good. My move from 40D was 1Ds2 (very different to non-s 1D2) and no regrets so far.

The 5D2 really only has one AF point that can be trusted to (sometimes) work.

I wouldn't bother moving until you can afford the 5D3, the prehistoric AF system in the mark 2 will drive you insane. It did for me, I sold it all for a Nikon in the end. Crazy!

Thanks for the replies. I think I may hold out for a 5d3. What are people's opinions on the 1ds3????
Dean.

very attractive kit, but they cost as much as 5D3 new and that rule them out (for now)
