Okay, hoping you folks can help me here.
I've got a 1Dc and it's having some problems.
The vertical controls stopped working, but after googling this issue I followed some guys advice to run a bit of foil under the vertical shutter release. This did actually work (for reasons unknown to me!). However, after replacing the battery it stopped working and the "fix" no longer works.
I've also been getting error 99s with all lenses especially the 400mm when I point it above the horizontal. Initially I thought this was a contact problem, but I've had no problems with the lenses on the 20D. This happens in both vertical and horizontal shooting. The errors are intermittent and I can take quite a few photos with no error then get an e99.
I've put it into AJ Johnstone (and am now regretting it as their reputation isn't great). I put it in on Tuesday and they've still not even looked at it. When I phoned to check on it I was told that they do their estimate work on a Friday. I then phoned on Friday to ask if they'd had a look at it yet - "no you'll be e-mailed" was the response.
According to the foxbat actuation counter (http://www.foxbat.me.uk/2.0/index.php#/freesoftware) the camera has done 25,420 actuations which seems pretty low for the shutter to be failing.
However, that is exactly what the tech suggested when I checked it in. I'm not so sure and I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on the matter?
If it is the shutter does anyone know what a new shutter will cost roughly?
