canon 1dmkiv shutter had it :(

BTW had one problem wiht the mkIV back from canon.. the one setting they did change was the clock.. putitng it forward exactly one hr for some strange reason :( Using two bodies at last nights cup final all my pics where out of sync... goals scored and celebrations where ten minutes later stuff like that when swapping lens...

so top tip.. camera goes for repair.. check date.. esp two body users..

A method I use at sports (guess anyone on grass) take a pic of someones boot...at 2.8 and a reasonable distance.. you can clearly see a line of sharp grass all the way across the pictures with it out of focus in front and back... easy to see of grass is sharp under behind or in front of the boot..its quite distinct the sharp grass and the blurred

Also shoot into a stadium crowd front on..... pic a subject.. think of each row of seats as layered.. if the person behind or in front is more sharp than the person you shot at then?

short lenses i have a clock in the kitchen.. shoot at center from an angle and you can clearly see what numbers are in focus... then I use the kids and shoot at there eyes.. see how sharp i get them :)

Yes I know about the proper methods to calibrate.. they never worked for me.. you cant beat a sharply photographed eye to know your lens is bob on :)

Try a Google on Canon micro adjustment, I think it's available on a 7D but not sure

It would sound reasonable, but my MK4 had to go back and they confirmed AF was out of specification and they had to adjust.

Luckily for me they asked for one of my lenses too to check the whole system, so I sent my most often used 70-200 and they adjusted the focus on the lens to match the camera so no micro adjustment need on that lens :)

Never even thought about checking that, but will do now.

Micro adjusting is more fine tune.. If you ahve f1.8 or f2 and f2.8 lens then you can adjust to get it absoloutly spot on and it does make a difference.. at f4 and above it doesnt seem to amke much difference moving focus as the dof is wide enough for whatever your shooting to be in focus.. if you see what i mean..

think of it as an extra feature :)
