Canon 1Ds - anyone still using one?

I'm pondering picking up a used 1Ds (the original one) or possibly a 5D and was wondering if anyone was shooting with a 1Ds still? If so what do people think of it, I know it's slower than the newer models and has a limited ISO range (but how does it perform within this range?) but it does look tempting. Any hands on user opinions on sample shots would be great.
 
I know someone at work who has been using a 1ds for around 5 years and hasnt upgraded, he is a well known tog and was offered to join one of his friends for a shoot at the playboy mansion (once in a life time) although he is upgrading he has used that camera with a 28 - 135 IS doing commercial shoots for ages. Personally although the tech is old i wouldnt say no, 5D also good camera but im not sure what your using for.
 
Have a look at nearly every shot in my gallery 97% will be with my 1ds


I have been takinng some photos of it this weekend as it will be up for sale very soon.. " I have now got a 1DSMK2"

If your shooting portraits then i have found it a fantastic bit of kit. hell i use it for everything and get some good imho results.....

Bit heavy batterys are not the best . but its a great feel to hold and you get soem great images from them...

I have a 1DII and a 5DI. I was recently discouraged from trading the 5D in a for the 1Ds as one was not going to represent an improvement over the other (unless my 5D is a dodgy one, which it isn't, and the 1Ds on offer was spectacularly good, which I couldn't comment on.)
I love my 1DII but am equally committed to my 5D enjoying not only its FF and quality but also the fact that, when the need arises, I can drop the battery grip and travel a bit lighter.
Long term I would like a later 1Ds variant but find that the value for money of the 5DI is a significant factor.

Interesting... I considered a 5D but decided on the 1DS as I can share batteries and charger with the 1DII so have to take less gear away. Horses for courses....
 
Well I was going to get the 1Ds and I had seen one for £599 which seemed a great price, but I thought about it for too long and someone else bought it instead :( So I was on the look out for another at a good price but got distracted my the 5DmkII and bought one of those instead... the AF is not as good as on a 1D but the image quality is superb, I'm well happy with it.
 
Can't say for the 1Ds but I'm chuffed to bits with my 5D 'classic'! It's my primary body and the stuff I shoot is mostly landscapes but I've got my fourth wedding with it in June and it's not let me down yet. Below ISO 800 the noise performance is excellent, at ISO 1600 noise performance is good and it's doubtful you'll see it once printed. At ISO 3200 you will see noise but it's nothing that can't be processed for in DPP (or LR, PS...). Despite the 5D being a few years old it's AF is still reliable. I think the only thing holding back the old 5D is it's relatively slow frame rate of 3 FPS but it's never bothered me personally.

If you're undecided between the two see if you can visit a local camera shop that has a few second hand bodies to see if you can compare the two. Whichever way you go I'm sure you'll be happy as both the 1Ds and 5D are excellent cameras :)
