Was using the camera yesterday and noticed after about 50 shots of a fully charged battery that it had dropped to 1 bar ( so almost dead) I continued to use the camera and by about 100 shots it was back up to full bars on the LCD
It done this for most part of the whole day shooting and when I left ( motorcycle race) it was showing full bars after a total if 500 or so shots
It's a canon brand battery .... Anyone any ideas?

Not seen that before with my 1D2 but I'd be tempted to do a full battery 'refresh' and see if it does the same.

Sometimes this can happen with battery,i find if i fully discharge them a couple of times,it ueslly solve the problem :)

Does it behave the same with other batteries or just that one?

So far only I've only checked it on the 1 battery , I've got a non canon one as well so I'll try that tomorrow

I had exact same problem... it was the non canon battery not being weather sealed.. damp gets into the battery chamber... even if your using the canon battery.. too late if already used the 3rd party that day... its damp as in cold damp...

took me an age to figure out because it went dead with the canon battery as well so i didnt put it on the 3rd party one..

never bought a 3rd party battery since.. i know a million people swear by them and never have a problem.. but same problem.. same camera as you now.

PS
if you recharge and its all OK .. it could be that the compartment had dried out and you will kid yourself into thinkiing the recharge/boost fixed it..

seriously.. took me a long time to suss... am betting thats the problem..

Thanks everyone, I've got all batteries on an over night refresh so I'll see how it goes
