I am considering going back into the DSLR market and am looking at a mint used 1DS MkIII or a new 5D MkII

I've previously used Nikon DSLR's but really want the additional pixel count that these cameras offer as I can't afford a 3DX.

I would welcome some guidance as to which of these would better suit me in terms of overall image quality. I shoot varying subjects but predominantly landscapes/scenic. I don't really need the video capability of the 5D MkII and am really interested in how they compare IQ wise and what their strengths/weaknesses are.

I can get a new 5D MkII with the 24-105 lens for just under the cost of a used 1DS but my over-riding requirement is the best IQ possible. The bullet proof nature of the 1DS does appeal too although I know it's a bit of a monster weight wise.

As an aside I am also torn between the 24-70 F2.8 L lens and the 24-105 F4. Has anyone compared these in terms of IQ?

Thanks

Canon said themselves that the 5DII sensor was improved over the 1DSmk3.

You get better ergonomics with the 1DS3 (compared to a gripped 5D2).
You get a much better screen with the 5DII.
You get dual card slots with 1DS3.
You won't be dissapointed with the image quality from the 5D mk 2, high-ISO performace is fantastic, 6400 is good. :)

I bought the 5DII with a 24-70 in preference to the 24-105. Not sure if there is any difference in IQ between them, but the max aperture of f/2.8 on the 24-70 was of more value to me than the IS on the 24-70.

I went for the 24-70 because of the better low light handling.
