I have a problem with my 24-105 L lens not working on my camera . I know the camera is ok because the 85mm and a 70-200 both work on it.

When I try and take a image it locks up and err01 shows on the main screen on to of the camera . also the Fstop goes to 00 ? :shake:


Anyone else ever had this problem before and if so what was your outcome...:help:

Err01 can be caused by faulty comms between lens and camera so if you haven't done this then a first step would be to clean the contancts on the 24-105. Cleaning the camera contacts won't hurt either.

Worst case is a faulty IS assembly in the 24-105

I have given the contacts a wipe they all look spotless..:shrug:

Happened yesterday morning .. I had to change lens to finish a shoot . I put it back on in the afternoon it worked foe a while then locked again.. Tonight it is locked on the 1st press of the shutter..!

Dave,

Set the aperture at f/16 and toggle the DoF preview button whilst you look into the lens.....does it stop down?

If it doesn't, will it shoot okay a f/4 but give an error at any other setting?

Yes Bob it does ..! Just taken a image also..!:thinking: Again it seems to be working at the moment..!!!

Scrap that ..!!!!!!!!!:shake: Stopped again... Hmmmmmm

When I turn the camera on it give a little whirr like the IS goes backward and forwards then it just locks . 00 where the aperture should be.

Right I have turned the IS off and got the camera working again... When I did the last test the is was off it worked then I turned it on and the camera froze..


Seems to be working without the is on..:cuckoo:

so does it work if you force it to f/4? If yes, then aperture blades are shot.
Then you can try manual focus (some weird AF problem?) and so on.

On the other hand are these happening at higher shutter speeds or throughout the range?
 
hmm sounds something sort of similar when i had a 1ds mkii..except with me, when i put a 70-200 on it, it wouldnt stop down below f11..worked fine with other lens, and the lens worked fine on other bodies! Strange much!
