Canon 1Dx cheap!!! What would you do?

Hi all

Firstly, apologise if this is in the wrong thread but as it's a general discussion thread I thought I would pose the question.

Now, I happen to travel a lot in and out of Asia, main point of entry/departure is Hong Kong.

Anyway, I'm just at the airport and have been looking to upgrade my 650D for some time and really wanted to go across to the 5D III,

Given the current prices in the uk, exchange rates in HKG etc, the 5D is upwards of £2300 new and with a 24-105 lens maybe around the £2700+ my dilemma is that I do not need any lens' as my current crop will fit the 5D3 so just the camera body is fine.

Now, whilst do what us lads do best and stroll though the gadgets and gizmos section at the airport (sound & Vision shop) I come across the display cabinet with the 1Dxkit with 50 1.4 USM lens.

Now I know for a fact this lens was recently in the display cabinet for $48,000hk+ which equates to around £3700 current exchange rates.

What surprised me more than anything was it was now displayed at $38,320 hk which startlingly is £2941.00 give or take a few pence. This is not far off the 5D3 kit!!!!!! :wideyed:

Catch (or not) local & mainland Chinese warranty, thing is, I'm in and out of HKG several times a month so warranty work is not a issue.

So, your thoughts are appreciated........ :canon:
 
I'd go for the 1dx in your circumstance.

You could also sell the 50mm 1.4 for around £200 and it will only be around £440 more than then 5d
 
At that price, if it's genuine, it's a bargain. Pay the VAT when you import it into the UK and it's still a bargain. If you don't get on with the size and weight of the 1DX, you can always sell it here, buy a 5D III, and you'll be in profit.

PS It does seem a bit odd selling a 1DX in a kit with a 50mm f/1.4 though. Why would they do that?

If you bought at the airport wouldn't you need to declare it at customs when you arrive in the uk and then pay import tax etc? Could be difficult trying to say you already own it when you have the box etc in your hand luggage.

I think you would have to. There is no important duty on camera bodies but there is VAT. But it's still a bargain even with VAT paid.

Have to agree, it's an odd lens to sell as a kit, maybe it's a HKG thing!
