Any thoughts on this long discontinued lens? Managed to pick one up for just over £200 that's heading my way for Saturday, so a bit late if anyone says it's awful! It will be used on a 5D MkII, I rarely use wide angle but wanted something in my bag just incase, so hopefully this fits the bill perfectly in terms of bang for buck.

(I'm aware that if it dies that it's game over as Canon won't touch them apparently)

Looking at eBay prices I got a good deal, very uncommon lens but prices seem all over the place, often nudging £400.

£200 is a very good price! My friend picked one up second hand from HK when he was out there and was using it on his 60D. Colours seem great from it, I'm not sure it is as sharp as the 16-35 F2.8L but it does perform well. If you don't want it I will take it off you at £200 ;)

Seems very rare these days, only seems to be one user on POTN so I think I'm going alone with this one!

Unfortunately all is not well...

Any ideas what could cause the out of focus areas to look so terrible? It's nothing like any sample photos I've seen.

Are you talking about the sides? If so I guess it's field curvature.

Anywhere that isn't the immediate centre (although even that isn't sharp), it looks horrible in my opinion and I'm far from picky, kind of like the Holga plastic lens attachment I had once, it looks all smeary.

That looks nothing like my friends lens in afraid :-(

The suggestion on POTN is that it may have been dropped previously and the optics are all out. Thankfully it came from MPB so can go straight back, sadly I'm going to have to spend a hell of a lot more to get anything vaguely equivalent.

That's a shame, I don't think spares are easy to come by with this lens either :(
