Evening all,

I am thinking of buying a Canon 220EX speedlite as a small, compact flash to go on my 5D when out and about, and when I dont want the extra size and weight of the 430exII.

Specs look good, TTL, high speed sync, 2AA batteries etc

Just wondering if anyone uses one and could offer any real world feedback?

Thanks

I'm sure it's fine, but a very limited gun - basically a glorified pop-up.

If you can find a 270EX, that's a brilliant little gun. More powerful than the GN suggests, does ceiling bounce, has high speed sync etc. V small too. You can still pick them up for around £100.

270EX Mk2 is great too, a few more features, but a lot more money.

Canon have a refurbished 270EX II on Ebay for £100.

I use one and it's a great little flash for the money imo

Bargain :)

Technical question, but could a 5DmkIII wirelessly trigger a 270exII (which has inbuilt wireless slave mode)?

Cant find out if the 5DIII has wireless flash like the 7D?

5D3 doesn't have a built-in flash. It can't trigger anything. 7D uses the pop-up to transmit remote mastering signals.

270EX only works on-camera, or a cord, controlled by the camera menu. 270EX2 is identical, but can also be used as a remote slave (and has a couple of other minor extra features).
