After some sugestions as to my next upgrade here.

Lookin for a digital SLR with a budget of around £3000 and hoping to get a lens or 2 aswell....? Only looked at canon as i have one already :-) thoughts are greatly apprecieated :-)
 
best thing is to get yourself down to a camera shop and have a feel of them.... what we like may not be to your taste..... you've set aside a fabulous budget so you can pretty much choose what you want within reason of course.... lens wise you'l need to think about what sort of scenarios you'd be shooting in and get appropraite lens to suit these...
 
it really depends on what you shoot, for that sort of cash you could pick up a Canon 5D3 with a 70-200 f/4 or 17-40 (if you shop around/buy grey)

the 5d3 is a massive leap from a compact, it's an awesome camera but comes with obvious caveats that it's big and heavy, especially in comparison to what you are used to.

but, you will want for nothing. the image quality, af, noise handling and ergonomics are all fantastic.

i wouldn't hesitate getting a 5d3. the specific lenses are a different matter. and although it slightly exceeds your budget, i think a 5d3 and 35l is perhaps the most delightful combination, but i love fast primes and the 24-70 would probably be more useful to most people.

If you want to use your budget up all at once you could do worse than a 5D Mark 3, Canon 24-105L F4 and 70-200L F4. I'm going on panamoz / hdew prices :).

That would cover wide to medium telephoto, but the usefulness all depends on whether you're wanting macro or longer lenses etc.. instead ?

Ive had a look at a 7d but then a 6d was mentioned!

I must have a 70-200 and im thinking a 24-105 aswell?
 
Grey refers to goods not supplied via canon uk. They're intended for a different market, eg Hong Kong etc..
They have no warranty with canon UK but the supplier will provide some kind of warranty instead. They are the same products, all you lose out on is the canon uk warranty. Have a look at panamoz and hdewcameras.

Regarding the 7d / 6d, I have had a 7d for just over a year and recently got a 5d mk 2. The 7d hasn't been touched since the 5d mk 2 arrived as I prefer the full frame format to allow me to get wider with the lenses I have (mainly been using my 24-70l). Noise levels are also much reduced and I can use iso 3200 without much concern now. The 5d mk 3 would provide better performance than the mk 2.
The 7d crop factor is good for 'extending' the range of longer lenses though so I'm holding onto that in case I ever get round to getting a 100-400 or something similar.

Personally I think that lenses designed for 35mm FF cameras, like the 24-105mm, make the most sense when used on 35mm FF cameras. For APS-C cameras I personally think that there are choices that make more sense.

There's a lot to think about... FF or APS-C? DSLR or CSC? Primes or zooms? Maybe you should make a list of what is important to you? For example the 7D and 6D are quite different cameras and what you shoot and how you do it could tip the scales towards one or the other.
 
So then a 7d is a good camera....? Not to sure on the difference in sensors... Hopefully google will be my friend here!
 
The 7D is a good camera, it's very capable. Check out some decent review sites, such as dpreview.com.
 
It all depends on what you want to shoot, if wildlife then look at crop sensors, the 7D being the best of the bunch. If landscape or portraiture is more your thing then 5D3. Lenses, well that depends again on what you want to shoot.
