Canon 24/1.4 hood for 17-40

I read on another site last night that the 17-40 can be fitted with the hood which is intended for the 24/1.4 and won't vignette at all on crop - it barely vignettes on FF apparently. I am thinking of acquiring this hood as it is deeper and will offer better protection from bumps than the standard 17-40 hood. Has anyone tried putting a deeper hood on the 17-40 on a crop body and noticed any ill effects?

Iwas thinking the same thing, theortetically it should work in terms of FOV as 17mm on
crop = 27mm on FF and obviulsy the hood is designed for FF use with the 24mm.

Only problem is that i have both a crop and FF bodies so it means carting 2 lens hoods for the same lens.

Well I am only a cropper so theoretically this might be a good idea for me.

I have been reading this,
http://photo.net/canon-eos-digital-camera-forum/00Em9j

which also mentions the hood from the 24-105.

I am considering putting a protection filter on the front as it completes the sealing but if I can get a decent hood I might end up not doing.
