I have recently bought the Canon 24-105L lens and it focussed manually when the switch is in the autofocus position ie. switching between auto and manual makes no difference and I wondered if this is normal. Just to clarify further, the auto focus only works in auto mode as you would expect.
Cheers in advance.

You mean like the 70-200mm f/4 L where you don't need the switch to be set to MF to manual focus? Sounds right to me. I believe it's a feature of quite a few lenses.

Yup, this is all good - it's known as "Full time manual" focussing. Useful for tweaking focus with the shutter button halfway down, should you so desire ;)

I think that what you are talking about is 'Manual focus override'. This is a very useful feature if you're autofocus fails and you need to make quick adjustments. For more details look here:

This is of course perfectly normal for these lenses and it is not faulty or anything.

Hope I helped
Bart

You mean like the nifty fifty where you don't need the switch to be set to MF to manual focus? Sounds right to me. I believe it's a feature of quite a few lenses. My 70-200mm f/4 L does the same come to think of it.
The nifty fifty does not have FTM and may damage IT if manual focusing in AF mode.
